An analysis.

After analysing data from over 70 million consumers, Business of Fashion and Lyst have revealed the ‘hottest’ fashion brands in 2017.

While Balenciaga scored well in the second half of 2017, Gucci took out the top spot overall, with more people entering the search term ‘Gucci’ than ‘shoes’ or ‘dresses’. The brand also added a huge eight million Instagram followers in 2017.

The rankings were formulated using Google and Lyst search data, engagement statistics, conversion rates and sales from over 70 million consumers. It’s important to note that the index does not include Chanel, Christian Dior, Hermès, Louis Vuitton Céline or Prada.

Demna Gvasalia’s Balenciaga saw epic growth, with search traffic to the brand growing by 50 percent over the year. Together with Gucci, the two powerhouses account for the top five selling products in 2017.

For Gucci, this includes the label’s Bloom slides, logo belt, logo tee and Ace sneakers, which will come as a surprise to no one. Balenciaga, on the other hand, took the number two spot for its Speed Trainer.

The competing brands will continue to rival for the top spot in 2018, with Gvasalia’s Vetements also following closely behind at number three.
