Weddings are a glorious spectacle of love, a celebration between two people joining their lives together. Although, we would be lying if we said that’s the only reason we love the occasion. The decor, the music, the dresses – oh, the dresses! – work in tandem to bring the extravaganza to life.

Thankfully, the tradition of marriage has changed with the times (we’ll take a ring over a flock of sheep, thanks). Just this week, Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge tied the knot – much to the pleasure of millions vicariously watching on from home. Her custom-made Chanel gowns and South of France venue are no doubt making their way onto thousands of Pinterest wedding boards as we speak.

Bridal outfits are constantly evolving and so, we brought in the Founder and Creative Director of Rebecca Vallance to share this year’s biggest bridal trends. Rebecca’s takeaway? Have fun with it.

Bows are back

Bows are back in a big way. Including the oversized taffeta bow trend in our new bridal range was a must. Our Perle Bow Midi channels our romantic and playful modern designs, while still being classic and timeless for the special day.

[Bows are] perfect for the modern bride to wear to her rehearsal dinner, wedding ceremony or reception, [and typically] requires only minimal and classic accessories. Whenever a significant feature is at the back of a dress, I love to wear my hair up.

Feathers, feathers and feathers

From international runways to glamourous lounge sets, feathers have been a consistent feature this season; we expect to see this trend roll into the bridal market. Feathers add fun and fabulousness to more traditional pieces, allowing brides to feel more dressed up and special. Inspired by ’40s and ’60s silhouettes, our Plume gowns and feathered suits are the ultimate Rebecca Vallance aesthetic.

We designed these for the customer who loves to dress up and push traditional boundaries. We styled these looks with white Valentino pumps – the height brings extra vivacity to an already stylish bride. We also find that in different contexts, these styles can also be easily worn outside of a bridal occasion. Pair our mini feathered dress with a coloured block heel and you’re good to go.

Unconventional details for the modern-day bride

This collection was designed with the modern-day bride in mind; she is comfortable in experimenting as she values her individuality and wants her wedding dress to reflect more of her personality. At Rebecca Vallance, we are loving vamping up our dresses through pearl accents, including pearl trims, pearl chain straps and all-over pearl riveted fabric; nothing is too much at the moment.

When styling wedding dresses with avant-garde features, find bridal jewellery that complements [rather than] competes. For the most harmonious look, you can never go wrong with white gold, diamonds and more pearls!

The shift to ready-to-wear

With the current nature of the economy, paying for a bespoke and custom-made wedding dress isn’t always achievable for young brides. We have seen a shift in the market to an omnichannel way of shopping – customers value ready-to-wear collections as they prioritise being able to immediately shop outfits posted on social media. With our customer front of mind, this collection appeals to the bride that is looking to shop with convenience and even a sense of immediacy, without having to compromise on fashion.

Two is better than one

The importance of the second dress (or the afterparty dress) is seeing an uptrend in the bridal market, so we have designed this collection to incorporate multiple outfits for the wedding day and the celebrations that surround it. Micro-minis and two pieces are perfect for dancing and enjoying your wedding reception.

These are some of the floral trends in the bridal space you can expect to see this year.
