“To see that other people think they are worthy of putting on a stage like that is validating.”
One of Australia’s most beloved independent designers is making his way to Paris Fashion Week. For the first time ever, Christopher Esber is bringing his eponymous label to one of the world’s biggest fashion weeks.
“I’m honoured and excited to be part of the calendar,” he told the Australian Financial Review. “Sometimes you think, what is this all for? You are in this bubble making things, and to see that other people think they are worthy of putting on a stage like that is validating.”

The 13-year-old label has established itself as one of this country’s most reliable voices in the realm of contemporary womenswear. Christopher Esber balances timelessness and avante-garde designs with ease, seesawing between sleek modernity and sensual silhouettes.
Margot Robbie, Emily Ratajkowski, Zendaya, Dua Lipa and Rihanna are just some of the names who’ve worn Christopher Esber pieces. Despite over a decade in the industry, a sling of celebrity endorsements and several New York Fashion Week shows, this is the first time he’s holding a solo show as part of the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture schedule.
This isn’t the first time he’s applied to show in Paris, though. He tells Vogue he applied last year but was rejected. The Australian-Lebanese designer is now joining the ranks of fellow Australian labels Zimmermann, Collette Dinnigan, Romance Was Born, Ellery and Toni Maticevski, who’ve previously shown at Paris Fashion Week.

On September 28 at 4.30pm, Christopher Esber will be holding a runway, followed by a presentation, to present its Spring 24 collection. “I’m excited to share this next chapter with you all. A dream come true,” Christopher said on Instagram. Australian creatives Ilona Hamer and Filomena Natoli will accompany him to Paris, respectively working on styling and makeup.
In the month before the show, Christopher can be found in his Redfern studio in Sydney, in the final stages of prep. For the 36-year-old, this is a world away from his first Australian Fashion Week collection showing in 2010 where he “had no money… had blind ambition and not much else”.
“When you have the opportunity to do something, grab it, because it might not come around again,” he previously said. “I’ve learnt that the hard way. I think that’s super key and applies to everything, right? Life is short.”
