A new Melbourne exhibition to showcase eveningwear of the ’20s and ’30s

Gatsby-esque.

If intricate beading and labels reading ‘French hand made’ are the stuff of your dreams, then this is definitely one for you.

The National Trust of Australia’s Night Life exhibition opens on Friday May 5, showcasing Victorian eveningwear from the 1920s – 1930s.

With over 50 gowns and accessories, the exhibition brings together authentic Victorian pieces from these decades as well as a collaboration with young creatives. Taking on a modern interpretation, these Melbourne designers, stylists and photographers pair contemporary fashion labels with objects from the historic era.

As the location for some of the grand parties of the ’20s and ’30s, Rippon Lea Estate is an appropriate choice to house the collection.

Over the three months of the exhibition, you can also attend activities ranging from real-life, Gatsby-esque themed soirées, to fashion high teas, design workshops and curated talks.
