It’s official: Gucci is going fur free from 2018

Fur real.

Say goodbye to Gucci’s fur-lined loafers, because the fashion house has officially denounced fur for good.

The announcement came just yesterday, courtesy of Gucci’s CEO Marco Bizzarri. In an official statement, the brand said, “Gucci will no longer use, promote or publicize animal fur beginning with its Spring/Summer 2018 collection.”

“As a commitment and thanks to a long-term partnership with LAV [an Italian animal rights organisation] and The Humane Society, Gucci joins the Fur Free Alliance, which focuses on the deprivation and cruelty suffered by fur-bearing animals both in wild trapping and industrial fur farming.”

Remaining items on Gucci’s website with real fur will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going towards LAV and The Humane Society.

The move follows several other fashion houses which have already banned fur, including Armani, Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger.

It comes as part of the brand’s new 10-year ‘Culture of Purpose’ sustainability plan, which also includes a commitment to contribute one million euros to UNICEF’s Girls’ Empowerment Initiative.
