Meet the Australian sneaker label with over 3000 people on the waiting list

All before it’s even launched.

With athleisure an increasingly growing trend, it’s hard to find a human in Australia that hasn’t succumbed to the sneaker obsession.

With all this hype, however, only a few big players crowd the market. There is not one Australian label producing a sneaker for a fashion-mad, sneaker-centric country… until now.

Friends and entrepreneurs, Robbie Ball and Joe Tamburrino, noticed this gap in the market and sought to create a sneaker inspired by the forward-thinking landscape within this city. Together, they worked to create a sneaker that can be taken from the street to the gym, looking just as good with your tracksuit as with your favourite weekend attire.

And with this, Athletikan was born.

If you think you’ve heard of this brand already, you may well have. It has already accumulated tens of thousands of social media followers, all without releasing a single shoe.

The first drop is set to happen in a limited release this May, with only 500 to be made available to the public.

The ‘triple black’ style takes inspiration from Melbourne’s ever-growing athleisure culture and apparent obsession with black. The one-piece knit textile is said to provide superior lightweight comfort, complete with an embossed heel tab and printed upper.

The shoe will retail for $120, with more information released soon via Instagram.
