Reflecting the real world.

Three years after introducing curvy, tall and petite Barbies, Mattel is working to make the line of dolls more diverse again.

As part of the Barbie Fashionistas line, the new collection includes varying skin tones and hairstyles, as well as a doll with a removable prosthetic leg and one in a wheelchair. Alongside Barbie, Ken is also getting his own diverse range with the aim to help create a more realistic reflection of the world we live in.

According to Mattel vice president, Kim Culmore, the company listened to their consumers about what they wanted to see on the shelves.

“A Barbie with a smaller bust and less-defined waist. A wheelchair or doll in a wheelchair was one of the most requested items.”

The new dolls will be available to purchase in June.
