Science says that colourful clothes = promotions and pay rises

Colour is the new black.

If you thought that your wardrobe of minimalist black clothing was your number one weapon in the workplace, then think again. According to science (well, a new study from a UK phone case company) wearing colourful clothing in the workplace can lead to promotions and pay raises.

Twenty per cent of 18 to 34-year-olds say that their colourful wardrobe helped nab a promotion, and the same amount of 25 to 34-year-olds say it was what got them a pay rise. No wonder Elle Woods dominated the law game.

Apparently, the key is to choose the particular colours that scream creativity and imagination. So if you want to give off those vibes and get your boss to notice you, reach for anything patterned or multi-coloured, as well as red and purple.

And if you don’t get that promotion? Don’t fret. The study found bright clothes can also improve your mood too.

It’s a win-win.
