Y-3 has designed space suits for Virgin Galactic tourists

To infinity and beyond.

Yohji Yamamoto’s collab brand with Adidas has always been ahead of the curve, so it’s fitting that Y-3 is designing the flight suit for Virgin Galactic’s Spaceline.

In case you haven’t heard, Richard Branson’s company are attempting to fly people on a trip to space, selling a spot for around $250,000 USD. And while they’re still working out the kinks with the flying part, at least they have the style aspect under control.

The suit and flight boots stay within the Y-3 athleisure aesthetic, sticking to all-black with leather accents. Simply cut, the jumpsuit features the classic triple stripe down the centre. But that’s where the similarities end. The synthetic fabric used is resistant to heat and flame and on a similar tough-ness scale to Kevlar.

Apparently, it’s still quite comfortable.

Although we haven’t gotten a sneak peek yet, there is also a bespoke jacket in the works for those lucky few on the first flights.

A quote from Yohji Yamamoto is used in a video unveiling the flight suit. “With one eye on the past, I walk backwards into the future.”

And with this collaboration, Y-3 is fulfilling that ethos.
