WORDS BY IZZY WIGHT

From in-depth trend analysis to ‘wobbly fit checks’.

It’s no secret the Fashion Journal team is collectively obsessed with TikTok. It’s influenced our skincare routines, hairstyles and wardrobes, infiltrating our brains with its monotone narration and snippy, sped-up Charli XCX sounds. And we love every second of it (well, most seconds).

For more fashion news, shoots, articles and features, head to our Fashion section.

Most importantly, TikTok has changed the way we write about and analyse fashion, helping us to break down the ever-evolving nature of the trend cycle. Through the all-knowing For You Page, the app connects us to like-minded fashion creatives on a global scale. Below, find some of the Fashion Journal team’s favourite fashion TikTok accounts.

Izzy Wight, Fashion Journal’s Editorial Assistant

Rian Phin

Rian is a New York-based content creator who speaks on art, design, archival and contemporary fashion. Her videos range from ‘Weird fashion that’s catching my eye’ to ‘A deep dive on trend alienation in era-based trends’, making it prime viewing for both my intellectual and pea-brained moods. Rian’s outfits are also gorgi (naturally); a sleek mix of thrifted and high-end pieces. If you only watch one Tok, I’d suggest her discussion around the (impeccable) costuming in the 2003 cinematic masterpiece, Thirteen.

Agus Panzoni

As someone who writes about fashion, I don’t just use TikTok to smooth out my silly little mind after a long day – it’s also an important source of inspiration. It’s an app I use to engage in interesting discussions about consumption, trends and the future of fashion. Argentinian fashion figure and trend forecaster Agus Panzoni was the first user to really introduce me to this corner of TikTok. She officially coined the term ‘subversive basics’ and predicted the rise of indie sleaze, unbounded maximalism and regencycore.

Luke Meagher

I’ve been listening to/watching Luke Meagher’s content for a few years, and don’t think I’ll be stopping soon. It’s bitchy, analytical, and witty. It’s my comfort fashion account when I want to dabble in some high fashion drama happening so far away from me.

@hautelemode

Blake Sutherland

His content isn’t as analytical, but videos like ‘When you’re in deep transit but in a Celine Homme AW/22 kind of way’ make me laugh in public.

Savannah Anand-Sobti

I’m a big fan of Savannah’s style. She knows how to work with colour and has an emphasis on comfort that I really respect (it’s hard to find in the fashion industry). Aside from offering insight into her personal style, her TikTok offers exactly what I like to see on my For You Page. Her content, much like Savannah herself, is easygoing and lighthearted. On a platform where fashion is becoming increasingly serious, Sav is a breath of fresh air.

Ginger and Carman

I’m a big believer that both fashion and TikTok should be for fun, and no one embodies this ethos better than Ginger and Carman. The pair has found TikTok fame for a simple and effective formula, as they dance around Melbourne in their vibrant personal style. I can’t help but smile each time I see them on my feed, and with the pair clocking over eight million likes, I’m not alone.

Fans of the Ginger and Carman will also be pleased to know the women are just as effervescent in real life as they are on camera. I was lucky enough to meet them at a Fashion Journal shoot earlier this year and can confirm they possess exactly the magnetic warmth you’d expect.

Mira Al-Momani

I first came across Mira’s account after becoming entranced by her very fun, very silly ‘wobbly fit checks’. Upon further investigation, I discovered she not only has one of the best wardrobes I’d seen in a long time, but she’s also a huge advocate for highlighting ethical fashion and uncovering emerging designers. I love how unconventional and satirical a lot of her outfits are… I’ve definitely been influenced into buying a fluffy hat.

Mandy Lee

New York-based analyst and fashion writer Mandy Lee has long been one of my favourite accounts to follow. She has a super calming and relatable energy, and I love that she goes against the historical fashion ‘gatekeeping’ grain. Her feed is full of commentary on wider social trends and their impact on global fashion trends; it’s also peppered with fun ‘get ready with me’ videos and vlogs.

Imani Rudolph

If you enjoy writing, talking and thinking about fashion, then TikTok will probably be an endlessly fascinating platform for you. The way trends are pulled apart and analysed and the (honestly quite alarming) way they reach mass popularity and die, all within a few weeks or months, is pretty wild to watch in action.

It also makes it all the more exciting when you find someone on the app who really has a firm grasp on their personal style. For me, that person is Imani Rudolph, a New York-based model and content creator. I love the way she plays with texture, colour and shape. She has a knack for finding the most delectable vintage and archival designer pieces. As someone with big boobs, I also love seeing. a fashion girlie with them too – it serves as a good reminder my body doesn’t need to limit what I wear.
