Crosswords, Prada wedges and pendant necklaces: Here’s what FJ editors loved this month

words by fashion journal

The month that was.

At the risk of stating the obvious, the year is going by pretty fast. Summer is (finally) rolling in, holidays are only weeks away and our out of office is just waiting to be switched on.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, we’re taking stock of the month that was. Our last print magazine for 2025 is now out in the world and we’ve been loving seeing it pop up in shops, videos and your Instagram stories.

November also marked Addison Rae’s Australia tour if you were lucky enough to go, Rosalia released her fourth studio album, Lux and Rachel Sennott’s new series, I Love L.A. came out.

It didn’t stop there. Between the FJ team, we’ve had successful pre-loved hauls, headed to local art exhibitions and ended the search for the perfect pair of purple pants. All in all, November has been good to us. Find our round-up of monthly favourites below.

November has been a big month over at FJ. We were coming off the back of a hectic Melbourne Fashion Week (M/FW) in late October and rolled right into a print deadline. I managed to sneak in a week between the chaos, cycling around Gilli Air in Indonesia where I practically lived in my Deiji Studios pieces and Twoobs thongs. Knowing I get so much wear out of lightweight pieces in warm weather, I bit the bullet and bought a new pair of Deiji Studios pants as soon as I got back.

I’m also loving big, chunky necklaces right now. I’ve had this one from Vermeer Studios and this gorgeous pendant from Nuri Studios on my current rotation. I also managed to pick up a couple while I was away (I’m envisioning turning one into a belt…).

In between, I also popped into Mag Nation’s new CBD store (a wonderland for any print lover), Lani Mitchell’s new art exhibition at At the Above gallery, Bahama Gold for a post-work wine and I inhaled My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante.

November is my birthday month, so I’ve been leaning into a little extra indulgence. As I’m still building a Melbourne-ready wardrobe, I’ve become obsessed with the Suku Home Double Drawstring Pants in the perfect purple tone, and they’re size-inclusive. After spotting Pleiosien’s accessories all over M/FW, I’m also eyeing the navy blue Flower earrings to pair with post-beach curls and blushy cheeks.

I’ve been big on scent too, burning Gentle Habits’ Inner Den incense while reading or after a house clean. With leather, smoke and patchouli, it’s a cosy, sensual mood-setter. To top it off, I attended Bruxa’s Seduction of Self event for the launch of the Don Juan 1973 Body Oil. Infused with ultra rare natural oud, this pheromone-laced oil is genuinely addictive.

I recently scored a pair of (pre-loved) Prada wedges from Goodbyes and the raffia sandal style feels very SJP at a summer BBQ. As a tall girlie who doesn’t normally wear heels, I appreciate the stability of a platform wedge, so I took advantage of the sale at DOF Studios and also bought this ’90s inspired pair in black.

More than summer BBQs, I’m excited that it’s officially ice cream weather. Melbourne has the best ice cream, hands-down (and that’s coming from a Kiwi). My current hyperfixation is a scoop of Salted Lemon Curd from Fluffy Torpedo – it tastes like those saltly lemon sandwich biscuits. Crunchy, creamy, zesty, perfect. I liked it so much I bought a take-home tub.

Look, I’ve really been trying to hold back on my spending habits. But it’s just. So. Hard. So naturally I’m coming at you with a big list. I’ve recently started presenting on the radio (alongside my own podcast), so the Mix Girl T-shirt by Beci Orpin is an obvious necessity. While on air, I’ve been spinning plenty of ARIA nominated band, Folk Bitch Trio. I love their debut album, Now Would Be A Good Time – it’s both melancholic and witty, which is the summer vibe I’m trying out this year.

I don’t smoke but I carry a lighter everywhere because I like to feel included. I envision whipping this one out in the smokers and, for a millisecond, being the centre of attention. It’s an unmatched buzz. On the theme of silver and attention seeking, these glasses from Gentle Monster have my name all over them.

There are also so many talented artists in Australia, and I’m desperate to dress my walls with their work. Alice Ramsden’s ‘Dolour and delight’ or this piece by Camille Laddawan are definitely at the top of my list.
