What Y2K dreams are made of.

Have you recently contemplated living your Paris Hilton fantasy? It’s something I think about often. Give me a flip phone, a chihuahua named after a luxury fashion house and a smooch with Nick Carter any day of the damn week! And an inheritance, because saving to pay for the dentist is not the vibe.

But for those of us who weren’t born into exorbitant familial wealth, we can still look the part. The Y2K dream has gotten a 2022 update in the form of a Ganni x Juicy Couture collaboration. Dropping today, the playful Danish fashion house – known for its printed babydoll dresses, embellished collars and modern Scandi aesthetic – has released a 13-part collection with the iconic Los Angeles lifestyle brand.

“There are few fashion pieces in the world that are as easily recognised as Juicy Couture’s velour tracksuit – it’s truly a piece of pop culture history,” Ganni’s creative director, Ditte Reffstrup, said of the release. “Being able to work with them on making the most responsible version yet was a great extra layer to the collaboration.”

Recently celebrating its 25-year anniversary, Juicy Couture cemented itself as a Hollywood favourite in the early 2000s. Paired with chunky streaks, rimless shades and skinny scarves (a wildly useless accessory, which we love), the Juicy velour tracksuit – emblazoned with a diamante ‘JUICY’ across the derriere – was worn by the likes of J.Lo, Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan and pre-Instagram Kardashians.

Now, in accordance with Ganni’s commitment to responsible fashion, the black and bright purple tracksuits are made from a mix of certified organic and pre-consumer recycled cotton. The Ganni logo appears across a zip-up velour hoodie, ideally paired with a hot pink Ganni x Juicy trucker hat. And if a velour set isn’t your dream, you can opt for a printed dress or leggings, a Y2K halter top, a soft tee or a (subtle) logo sweatshirt.

While the pairing might feel a little random, both brands have the level of tongue-in-cheek self-awareness required to create something as campy and wonderful as this collab. Fashion is about self-expression and fun – so pick up a chihuahua, zip up your tracksuit and get to girlbossing, hun.
