Kanye West announces a grant for young designers

Words by Tess Macallan

A new generation.

Kanye West is taking his passion for nurturing talent up a notch.

According to Vogue, the rapper/designer has launched an incubator program for up-and-coming designers. It will see West provide financial support and mentorship to young fashion creatives.

Former Yeezy womenswear designer Maisie Schloss is the first to receive the grant. With Kanye’s support, the budding designer is now launching her own brand called Maisie Wilen.

“Kanye very generously offered to support me,” she told Vogue. “He truly cares about sharing resources, creating opportunities for creatives to grow and be recognized.”

Schloss is not the first who has benefitted from Kanye’s eye for talent either. He’s also supported the careers of designers such as Heron Preston and Virgil Abloh.

We’re looking forward to seeing the next generation of designers emerge from his mentorship.
