Take a first peek inside Karlaidlaw’s new Fitzroy boutique

If, like us, you love the IRL shopping experience over scrolling online, you’re in luck. Local cult favourite label Karlaidlaw will be opening the doors to a second Melbourne boutique this Friday, good news for those who can’t quite make the trek to its north Melbourne location.

The new boutique adds an ‘earthy’ feel to Fitzroy’s Smith Street, with unique rock formations forming the counter and displays throughout the store, and plenty of mirrors for your try-on selfies.

“[Fitzroy] is the perfect place for new people to find the brand, as well as being a more local spot for existing customers,” Karla told Fashion Journal.

You will have the chance to shop the entire Karlaidlaw collection, including new arrivals, bags and accessories. The North Melbourne store will still be open and offer the alterations service.

Established in 2019, Karla’s eponymous label quickly cemented itself within the Naarm fashion scene through its penchant for experimental designs (she’s been one of our local firm favourites for years.). The new store opening comes off the back of the recent Melbourne Fashion Week Underground Runway, where Karla debuted a series of garments made in collaboration with her mum.

Having told Fashion Journal she hopes to never be stocked in a department store, the Smith Street store opening marks a key moment in the evolution of the label. Maintaining creative control, while having the opportunity to meet new customers and interact with like-minded creatives, Karla prefers the authentic, tangible experience of a shopfront.

When is the Karlaidlaw Fitzroy store launch?

This Friday, November 16 is an open invitation to the new store launch, with drinks and music provided from 6pm until late.

Where is the Karlaidlaw Fitzroy store?

Find the store at 287 Smith Street, Fitzroy. Following its launch, the store will open from Saturday November 16th and return to normal hours:

• Mon – Sat, 11am – 5pm
• Sun, 12pm – 5pm
