A week in work outfits with Katie Kolodinski, the Founder of Australian label Silk Laundry

WORDS BY YASMIN GOWER

“Sometimes when my mind is under stress, I need to be put together in order to feel like I have some control.”

Working in a creative role, it can be difficult to know how to dress for the day. Instead of having a set uniform of crisp white shirts and tailored black pants (as much as I love both), an ever-changing schedule means every morning requires a set of questions. Am I running around, or just sitting at my desk? Do I need to dress specifically for a project? And most importantly, will I be in the background of someone’s TikTok?

This week, Katie Kolodinski, the Founder of Australian-born womenswear label Silk Laundry, takes us through a week in her work wardrobe. On this busy week juggling meetings, collection presentations, planning and fittings, she was travelling from Barcelona to New York for Fashion Week. Katie’s day-to-day style is about practicality and comfort, brought to life through playful textures, colours and prints. Here’s what she wore across the week.

Monday

I’m almost always first to arrive in the office just after 8am school dropoff. I love the alone time and here is where you’ll find me if I need to take some sun, make a few quick calls to Australia while they are still working and keep my Duolingo streak. Today I’m wearing a classic blue Prada shirt with a Silk Laundry crochet skirt.

Tuesday

I work 12 to 18 months ahead of time with our collections and seasons. Today is a day when I’m presenting a new upcoming collection to the team to make sure everything is in order. When I’m not wearing Silk Laundry, there are a few notable brands that I love to wear and support.

These jeans are Litkovska, a Ukrainian brand I love. They are one size and just get folded into themselves and tied at the waist. I don’t love jeans, but I make exceptions for a few unique pairs. These are very big and comfortable and I just adore them. I’ve paired it with a sample bodysuit of mine and snapped it with some flowers from my dear friend Chloe, aka @jungle_doctor.

Wednesday

I try to wear and test almost everything we make myself to be sure I love the fit and the fabric. Today is another day of fittings and meetings, so I’m wearing some upcoming Silk Laundry items and some blue light reflection glasses for a day on the computer. They conveniently hide my under-eye bags, which can get out of control at times.

Thursday

I love dogs so much, so it’s a treat when I have furry visitors. This is Wicket. Wearing a deco slip and dressing it down with a shirt by Julie Pelipas’ brand Bettter. I love the saying that’s printed on it about strength.

Friday

It’s Friday and tonight I’m leaving for New York Fashion and have some running around to do, fittings and last-minute meetings. I’m starting to feel overwhelmed and sometimes when my mind is under stress, I need to be put together in order to feel like I have some control. I’m wearing a new Silk Laundry silk mesh dress layered over a ’90s slip.
