Cool Grandma Joan Hornsby is the star of Maria Farro’s campaign

Words by Maeve Kerr-Crowley

Age is but a number.

Today in things we’re a little obsessed with: a new campaign from minimal footwear label, Maria Farro.

The portrait series was shot by frequent MF collaborator, Jodie Hill, and stars her grandmother (and personal hero), Joan Hornsby.

Ninety-one-year-old Joan is considered somewhat of a pioneer in her hometown of Newcastle, UK. She was even inducted as a freeman – an honourary title granted to people who have served their communities – by Prince Charles.

Joan loves travelling the world by herself and the images perfectly capture the independent spirit of Hill’s grandmother, exploring the beauty and grace of ageing.

The intergenerational shoot took place in a small town in France, a fitting ode to Joan’s love of adventure.

We love you Nana Hornsby.
