The future’s looking bright.

It’s sometimes easy to overlook the upcoming designer shows in a sea of big-name runways.

MBFWA’s NEXTGEN show, however, is one not to be missed – it’s often where the emerging forces in Australian fashion are uncovered. And this year proved to be no different.

The show standout was Woolmark Prize nominee Chris Ran Lin. Inspired by Art Deco architecture, Lin’s showing was a fusion of colour and bold geometric designs. Old-school tailoring techniques met contemporary design, resulting in a collection with both conceptual and commercial appeal.

Honourable mention goes to Gina Snodgrass, whose Dandy Boys collection explored traditional ideals of masculinity and femininity. The designer sent male models down the runway in often traditionally female-gendered designs. Conventional tailoring approaches were applied to non-traditional fabrications such as lace, creating a provocative and romantic approach to menswear.
