Calling all Melburnian creatives.

The always exciting Melbourne Fashion Week (M/FW) is one of Australia’s premier consumer fashion events, so we’re eagerly awaiting its 2021 return. Running from October 11 to 17, M/FW works to position Melbourne as the fashion capital of the country, attracting over 175,000 people with more than 150 events.

After an event of entirely digital shows in 2020, the City of Melbourne is setting out to reactivate the city’s fashion scene through a mixture of digital and physical events. As is to be expected in these pandemic times, all events will be delivered in accordance with government recommendations and restrictions for COVIDSafe practice, so have your designer face masks at the ready.

This year M/FW is encouraging designers to take an environmental approach to fashion with seasonless and evergreen collections, as the event is placing an increased emphasis on sustainability. And if watching from the sidelines as a spectator isn’t your thing, then you’re in luck – M/FW is inviting creatives from all areas of the fashion industry to express their interest in being a part of the 2021 program.

If you consider yourself a thought-leader, doer or trailblazer from any realm of the fashion industry, this is your chance to – perhaps quite literally – take the runway. Below is a brief breakdown of M/FW’s 2021 program, and how you can get involved.

Runways

M/FW runways will showcase emerging and established designers in Melbourne’s most iconic spaces, celebrating the city’s urban landscape, renowned architecture, infamous laneways and diverse fashion culture in both physical and digital events.

Pop-up runways

The pop-up runways will feature both emerging and established designers’ collections in free moving runway activations held in a variety of unique spaces across Melbourne city.

The fashion capsules exhibition

M/FW will scatter a series of fashion capsules across the city in public locations to showcase Melbourne’s talented emerging designers, artists and makers.

Independent partner events

Independent partner events will activate Melbourne with a diverse range of films, workshops, runways, exhibitions and pop-up events all with a strong fashion focus.

Whether you are an emerging or established designer, an artist with an innovative concept or a city venue that is a hidden gem, M/FW wants to hear from you. Expressions of interest close 4 June, so get applying.

Keen to get involved? Head here if you’re an emerging or established designer, here if you’re a creative indivdual or entity, and here if you’re a venue, business or retailer.
