New Balance’s latest release is a very sleek ’70s inspired sneaker

A modern take on vintage athleisure.

This month, New Balance is launching its new 237 sneaker model, a modern take on the brand’s heritage designs from past years. The first release of the unisex design will be available for purchase from February 6 on the New Balance website as well as select national retailers including Platypus Shoes and The Iconic.

The 237 is an ode to the signature New Balance sneakers from the 1970s and represents the next evolution in retro-modern footwear design, bringing us a new take on the brand’s celebrated running styles.

The external design includes scaled-up dimensions to add a modern flair against the retro colour palette. The combination of suede and nylon with the bold block colours creates a stylish, everyday aesthetic.

“The design of the 237 consists of details from retro running models in our archive and twists them creating a trend-forward aesthetic,” said Charlotte Lee the designer behind the 237. “The timeless design of the 237 has a prominent heritage ’70s design visual while still delivering a versatile model that can be worn with anything.”

If this colourway’s not the one for you, fear not – additional 237 colourways will be released later this year.
