A future-focused, Y2K aesthetic meets contemporary sneaker design.
The resurgence of comfort-focused sneakers is a trend I’ve happily dipped my toes into (no pun intended). Gone are the days of putting our feet through agony for the sake of fashion, something iconic footwear brand New Balance knows better than most. Its latest release, the 9060 sneaker, puts comfort first without compromising on aesthetics.
Reimagining the innovative design elements of its 99X series, the 9060 is a convergence of ’90s and Y2K aesthetics. But New Balance hasn’t just re-released a vintage style; while it takes inspiration from the Y2K visible tech trend, the 9060 is future-focused with a sculpted midsole and up-scaled proportions.

Utilising Absorb and SBS technology, the 9060 gives the wearer the gift of inbuilt cushioning and support. The motion-controlling CR device on the heel is another nod to its 99X origins but this time it’s thicker, creating an exaggerated effect. Available in an array of colourways, from muted cream and soft blue to bold purple and green, there’s a shade for every wardrobe.
Its uppers are intricately crafted with mesh and leather panels that give you breathability and support. And don’t let the chunky design fool you – they’re surprisingly lightweight and streamlined, meaning it’s a style you can wear all year ’round. Just don’t forget to spray them with a protective spray to preserve them in all their glory.
