VAMFF recap: Gala Runway presented by David Jones

What you missed.

Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival Runway Series kicked off in a big way last night.

The Royal Exhibition building was lit up in pink for the Gala Runway Presented by David Jones and Supported by Vogue Australia.

The scene was set with a live piano, as the largest designer lineup of the Festival hit the runway.

Ellery opened the show and, as per usual, every design was perfection.

Scanlan and Theodore gave us an entirely red offering, which set the tone for this season’s strongest and vibrant colour trend.

The runway made it clear which shades you’ll be stocking your wardrobe with this winter. Black and white pieces played a huge role in each label’s offering and was so very Melbourne. The monochrome was broken up by a huge selection of designs in cherry red. Forest green is also here in a big way for winter.

If you’re in the market for a jacket, AW17 is all about the bomber. The runway saw the silhouette in velvet, satin, denim and of course, covered in embroidery.

Kacey Devlin showed everyone how draping was done, with David Jones presenting an all-white selection of the National Designer Award Winner’s designs.

You’ll also be seeing ruffles-a-plenty this season, with labels delivering volume in velvet, wool and silk. The lineup also included your fair share of tropical prints, lace designs and cut-out detailing.
