Busy days punctuated by coffee dates and market trips.
It’s no surprise that a contemporary creative role is rarely one-note. These days, even the most traditionally linear of career paths seem to acquire an extra hyphen at some point (eg, lawyer-fashion-content-creator, author-presenter-podcaster). Melbourne couple Justin and Tisha Adey-Lim have just added the most important hyphen of all to their resumes – they’re parents to a newborn.
Justin’s also a DJ and photographer and works in university admission, while Tisha’s nine-to-five involves building experiential events for global brand names. Needless to say, they’re busy people. As a fashion writer, my question is: how do you choose the perfect outfit every morning when balancing everything else?

For Steve Jobs and Albert Einstein (allegedly), it’s as simple as wearing the exact same outfit every single day. But instead of a uniform of matching turtlenecks and slacks, Tisha and Justin have opted for pieces from the Uniqlo U Autumn/Winter collection to help streamline their wardrobes while on maternity and paternity leave.
With a focus on versatility, layering, movement and play, the collection is perfect for running errands in Melbourne’s temperamental weather – which is exactly how Tisha and Justin spent their week. Scroll on for a glimpse into the life of a creative couple.
Monday
“We love having fresh flowers in the home, so Tisha is heading to our favourite florist in Fitzroy, Flower Vasette, to select a bunch,” Justin says. “Flowers Vasette was the florist we used for our wedding, so it’s always nice to head in-store and be reminded of it. She also works with Vasette often for brand events.”
“Selecting a bunch is a nice way to start the week with fresh blooms in the house.”
For Tisha, putting on a monochromatic base look, particularly all-white, feels fresh and easy. She loves an oversized coat, like the Uniqlo U Oversized Single Breasted Coat – it’s a perfect layer for the cooler months but also elevates an outfit to feel more refined and put together.
Wednesday
“Justin has a huge collection of jazz vinyl records (over 500), so for mornings at home, we put a few records on that he recently picked up while we make coffee and hang out,” Tisha tells me.
“Our newborn baby is six weeks old, so we’re enjoying slowing down and spending mornings with him at home during the week while we’re both on leave.”
The Uniqlo U Autumn/Winter collection has a great curation of pieces for lounging at home and for layering to venture outside. The Uniqlo U PUFFTECH Non-Quilted Vest is perfect for quickly transitioning from indoors to outdoors, from home to out and about.
“Once we finish our coffee, we normally take our dog, Toast, for a walk. With the weather getting cooler, we layer up to head outside with the Uniqlo U Lambswool Blend Zip-Up Jacket and the Uniqlo U Oversized Single-Breasted Coat,” Justin says.
Saturday
“Most Saturdays, we head to Bench Coffee in Brunswick and spend the morning there drinking coffee, eating pastries and reading magazines and books. We love the team there, so end up chatting with them, along with a few of our friends living in the area who we bump into usually also grabbing coffee,” Tisha says.
“It’s such a nice ritual in our week to catch up with people and spend time together – especially now with our newborn. It’s the ideal space to take a pram with it being a large coffee roastery!”
Justin tells me he found this collection super easy to style and build monochromatic looks with. The collection is also transitional across seasons and can be made more casual by adding accessories like hats or bags or more formal with trousers and button-down shirts.
“We actually wear a lot of each other’s clothing and share items in our wardrobes, especially knitwear and coats,” he adds.
Tisha is wearing Justin’s Uniqlo U 100% Lambswool Knitted Jacket on her shoulders for an extra layer when it gets cooler later in the day, along with the Uniqlo U Cotton Blend Half-Zip Blouson and Uniqlo U Cotton Blend Volume Skirt.
Sunday
“On Sundays, we usually head to the Queen Victoria Market to do our food shopping for the week. Our favourite stall for fruit and veg is Queen’s Harvest, they have the best produce. Justin loves to cook, so he’s usually the one planning what to buy for the week and looking through the produce for what looks best.”
“With Melbourne’s unpredictable weather, we usually bring along a coat or hoodie and a few layers in case the weather turns cold and rainy. The Uniqlo U Coating Long Coat is ideal for this! We also brought along the Uniqlo U Cross Body Bag, which makes shopping in a busy market so much easier (especially with a newborn in hand),” Tisha explains.
Afterwards, the couple head to Udom House in North Melbourne for lunch. “We wanted to wear something comfortable but appropriate for heading to a cafe to meet friends,” Justin says.
