Phoebe Philo is (potentially) making a fashion comeback

The queen of clean lines has returned.

Three years ago—at the age of 44 and at the height of her success with Céline—Phoebe Philo announced her retirement from both the label and the fashion world at large. It was a decision that made fans of her sleek, minimalist designs despair, but Céline-ophiles can (tentatively) rejoice because Philo is rumoured to be making her return, this time with her very own label.   

While many were expecting her to join another fashion house in a creative director role, with speculation over the years leaning towards Burberry, in a very Philo move, she seems to be going her own way instead.

Philo set the precedent for women’s workwear back in the ’10s with her Céline collections that opted for a minimalist and everyday wear approach. With this ethos still in mind, Philo’s personal line is expected to consist of minimalist investment pieces and have an eco focus. 

And with Instagram accounts like @oldceline proving that Philo still has an impressively loyal fanbase, and even Anna Wintour praying for a comeback, we hope it’s only a matter of time before Philo’s new designs fill that pre-Hedi Slimane Céline-shaped hole in our wardrobes.
