Romance Was Born collaborates with QT Hotels on exclusive staff uniforms

Here at the Fashion Journal office, uniforms are not part of our workday, but if they were, we’d only want what QT Hotels has.
Iconic Australian fashion label Romance Was Born has collaborated with the design-led hotel chain, QT to create a line worn exclusively by its front door hosts at the hotels in Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth.
Known as ‘Directors of Chaos’, the charismatic front of house staff — who used to only be seen in red wigs — have become icons of the hotels around the country, exemplifying QT’s signature service.
The line, which is titled, QT Director of Chaos Collection will be exclusive to those staff members to encapsulate the atmosphere of the hotel.
You’ll see different wearable art on the employees depending on which capital city you’re visiting.
The Sydney print includes native wattles and Waratahs as well as a magician’s top hat and rabbit to pay homage to the theatre district the hotel resides in.
Influenced by the laid-back cosmopolitan style of the Western city, the Perth print is emblazoned with Kangaroo paw and cheeky black-cockatoos.
And the Melbourne print symbolises Melburnians’ love for style, fashion, and art by pairing pink heath with a peacock print, doubling as a nod to the peacock which stands in the QT Melbourne foyer.
The collection features six core pieces including high-waisted black sateen trousers, a pussy-bow blouse, a sharp blazer with a long tail, a cropped cape fastened with a velvet button, and an old school bell-boy cap embellished with native flora from each state.
Romance Was Born has collaborated with other labels in the past including stationery brand Papier and the Gumnut Babies, but this is a first for the design duo in the luxury hotel space.
Romance Was Born designer Anna Plunkett said of the collection, “Collaboration is elemental to our process and brand, we seek collaborations that offer inspiration from outside the fashion sphere. The highlight is seeing our work in a new context.”
