Sweet dreams are made of cheese.

According to science, hip hop music can alter the taste of cheese. Yes, really.

Very important research conducted by Switzerland’s Bern University of Arts has found that different types of music can increase certain flavour profiles in cheese.

The study involved nine wheels of Emmental cheese, which were placed in separate wooden crates to age over six months.

For a 24-hour period, various types of music were fed into the different crates, ranging from A Tribe Called Quest’s ‘We Got it From Here’, Mozart’s ‘Magic Flute’ and Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’.

Once the cheese had aged, a jury was asked to sample each crate of cheese twice.

They found that the cheese exposed to A Tribe Called Quest’s hip hop track was found to be the strongest in terms of smell and taste.

Benjamin Luzuy, a Swiss TV chef and jury member, told Reuters: “The differences were very clear, in term of texture, taste, the appearance, there was really something very different.”

What could this mean for the future of cheese? Well, we’re unsure. But perhaps Coles and Woolworths should consider blasting A Tribe Called Quest down the dairy aisle.
