Your Uber Eats history may now determine if you’re eligible for a home loan

Goodbye sweet delivery.

If you’ve ever dreamt of owning a home, it may be time to step away from food delivery apps.

Australian banks could soon be looking at your entire digital transaction history when assessing whether or not to grant you a home loan.

The proposed scheme, dubbed ‘Open Banking’, will track past digital transactions (with your permission) including food delivery app spending and online shopping expenditure. Great.

Currently, eligibility for home loans is evaluated on basic expenses such a grocery shopping, medical payments and household bills, which sounds pretty cruisy compared to what is looming.

Thankfully, Open Banking is not yet legislated, but the big four banks are pushing for its implementation by July 2019. It may be time to hold down that toggle and delete all food apps for good.

Goodbye sweet delivery.
