No buyer’s remorse here.

What happens in someone’s shopping cart is usually personal business. Orders are placed in the soft glow of your digital screen and eventually rock up in slightly squished boxes from the mailman. But at Fashion Journal, we love knowing the contents of these orders.

As a form of shopping inspiration (or just plain ol’ snooping), you can find us swapping photos and details of our latest acquisitions in the FJ office. In the age of mass dropshipping, people have become accustomed to accepting online orders will be a hit or miss. In order to honour the hits, we’ve crowdsourced some of the best purchases we’ve made over the past couple of months.

Lem Tailored Pant in Petrol

A post shared by LEM (@lem.wear)

With the recent rise in capsule wardrobes and brands catering towards offering the ‘perfect’ basics, you’d think it would be easier to find my dream, dark suit pants. After years of uncomfortable try-ons and incessant hemming, I can finally say I’ve found them in the Lem Tailored Pant.

With the perfect mid-rise waistline and pleat detail down the front, I can safely say I have never owned a pair of suit pants that make me feel the way this pair does. They’re as comfortable as a pair of trackies and feature an internal belt if you’re looking to add some flare to your outfit. Although the pants are not currently available on their website, you can shop the same style in shorts.

Baggu Puffy Laptop Sleeve

Like an absolute psycho, I’ve been raw-dogging my laptop around in my work bag for years with no case. So when I saw this Baggu Puffy Laptop Sleeve at a boutique when I was last home in New Zealand, I knew it was the visually appealing laptop case I’d long been in search of. The puffiness and the bold shade of fuchsia pink make it a case I actually like carrying around with me.

Peter Alexander top from Storehouse Thrift

I’ve been a little (a lot) obsessed with building my collection of ‘cute little tops’ recently. I picked up this gorgeous Peter Alexander piece from Storehouse Thrift, a secondhand/vintage supply store on Chapel Street, Windsor. I’m trying to liven up my wardrobe with some fun colours and patterns, and this top fits the bill. It has a relaxed fit, looks good on its own or layered up and seems to go with everything. I think it is technically pyjamas, but who cares? Fashion is versatile.

Oats the Label Summer Pop Top

A post shared by OATS (@oatsthelabel)

I am a sucker for an elevated basic, and Oats the Label just does it right. For the last few years, the infamous cobalt blue long-sleeve was my trusted night-out look – vibrant and fun yet elegant and sexy. But recently I decided I needed (a strong word but we will go with it) the Summer Pop Top in black.

And I was right because it has been the perfect addition to my daily wardrobe. The shorter sleeves mean I can wear it in almost any weather and the tie-up gathering on the shoulder is such a cute detail. Plus, choosing a monochrome colour like black means I can style it with almost anything in my wardrobe.

Susamusa Jasmine Dress in Black

After I saw FJ contributor Bronte wearing this Susamusa little black dress at our company Christmas party, I knew it immediately needed to be added to my wardrobe. I scoured Depop for months looking for it, and can happily say I managed to snag one without having to pay the UK shipping fees.

The cut of the dress is what makes it – without hyperbolising – the most flattering thing I own. I’ve already worn it to every occasion you can think of, from a casual day in the office to a Jonas Brothers’ concert to formal events at Government House.

Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara

It’s not uncommon at all (although I hate to admit it) for me to hit the pillow with mascara smudges still under my eyes from a lazy makeup removal or if I have had one too many drinks, I won’t have tried at all (yikes). However, after purchasing the tubing mascara from Hourglass, I now enjoy taking off my makeup.

There is something so satisfying about the way it pulls off your eyelashes with a little bit of water – no excessive scrubbing needed. Plus, you remain smudge-free throughout the day, no matter the emotional conditions! I had originally bought the travel size to try it out, but I have just committed to the full size. It’s just that good.

Nike Cortez Vintage Suede

I’m very fond of a Nike Cortez, Nike’s most unabashedly ’70s silhouette. I obsessively wore the white, red and blue colourway in my early twenties, and have always felt that they’ve been criminally underrated in the sneaker realm. So when I saw this green suede edition when I was in South Korea last month, adding them to my wardrobe was a no-brainer. I’m very into the textural element the suede adds to an outfit, particularly when peeking out from under an oversized pant.

Grown Alchemist Hydra-Repair Day Cream

After a recent experience with skin purging due to overdoing it on the products, I’ve stripped my routine back to my core products. These are the tried-and-tested, always-faithful formulas that keep my skin balanced, consistent and clean. One of these is the Grown Alchemist Hydra-Repair Day Cream. Enriched with plant-derived actives like aloe and vitamin E, it keeps my face hydrated and doubles as a primer, cutting out the need for yet another product. Pair with the Gentle Gel Facial Cleanser for glowy results.
