Book review: Street Food Asia

Words by Leah White

Food and culture.

One of Australia’s best-loved chefs, Luke Nguyen, has teamed up with acclaimed photographer Alan Benson to compile this compendium of street food.

The duo travelled Asia together, venturing out at dawn and late into the night, to meet stallholders and capture the captivating energy of the region’s main streets and alleyways.

Split into four sections – Saigon, Bangkok, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur – each provides an overview of the city’s specialities and Luke’s favourite street vendors.

In terms of the recipes, they’re easy to follow (I successfully tried my hand at a couple), with ingredients that are readily accessible at your local supermarket or Asian grocer.

Part recipe book, part travel guide, Street Food Asia is a welcome addition to any cook or traveller’s collection.
