Book review: The Rap Year Book

Pick up game strong.

Sometimes you find a book that appeals to you straight away. The title is snappy, the cover is bright and the content promised looks to be right up your alley.

This formula once led me to buy a book titled It Looks like a C*ck, so it doesn’t alway work out. But in some rare cases, it can add up to a quality read. Enter The Rap Year Book.

Emblazoned with illustrations of rap legends and with foreword by Ice-T, its pick up game is strong. It’s also extremely well written and injected with a sharp wit.

The result is an intelligent, insightful and introspective look at the history of rap that won’t result in you texting pics of phallic mushrooms to your friends. Bonus points.
