Pass the popcorn.

Looking back on our Letterboxd Wrapped for 2025 was a satisfying reminder of how spoilt we were with exceptional film releases last year. From Leo and Teyana Taylor in One Battle After Another to Sinners and Bugonia, 2026 has big boots to fill. Luckily, the cinematic line up is already looking juicy.

As it’s the first week back at work for many (RIP holidays), what better way to distract from the grind than to round up the releases we’re most looking forward to?

Among them, the bodice-ripping Wuthering Heights starring Australia’s leading lady and man, Charli xcx entering her thespian era with three upcoming films, and the highly-anticipated The Devil Wears Prada reboot. Escapism is the best motivation, so mark these must-watch films in your calendar now.

Australian release date: January 13

Set in New York in the 1950s, Josh Safdie’s hotly-anticipated film is loosely based on the life of award-winning table tennis hustler, Marty Reisman, played by Timothée Chalamet. Yes it’s everywhere, yes maybe it’s overrated, but we need to see the stacked cast (including Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, the Creator and Fran Drescher) on screen for ourselves to know if it’s really some “top level shit“.

Paul Mescal as a young Shakespeare? Say less. From award-winning director Chloé Zhao, the film adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s Hament is set to be a real tear-jerker. Mescal stars opposite Jessie Buckley, who’s received rave reviews for her performance as Agnes Hathaway, William Shakespeare’s wife.

Australian release date: February 12

Aussie-Hollywood darlings Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi star as lovers Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliffe in Emerald Fennell’s hot adaptation of the classic Emily Brontë’ novel (which has exploded over #BookTok, naturally). With it’s gothic visuals, Charli xcx soundtrack and bodice-ripper marketing campaign, it’s set to be a steamy Valentine’s Day.

It seems 2026 is Jessie Buckley’s year. The actor plays the lead in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s reimagined bride(!) of Frankenstein, the monster played by Christian Bale. Set in 1930s Chicago, the romantic horror is sure to be on everyone’s Halloween mood board this year.

Australian release date: April 30

The trailers have already sparked polarising opinions from the fashion world (namely, Miranda Priestly’s Valentino Rockstud pumps), so from here on out, we’re avoiding spoilers until the first Monday in May, when we can judge the full vision. Let’s hope it lives up to the hype…

Christopher Nolan’s latest blockbuster since his award-winning Oppenheimer will be nothing short of epic. The Odyssey follows Homer’s Greek hero Odysseus (played by Matt Damon), on his “long and perilous journey” home to Ithaca after the Trojan War, running into many mythical creatures along the way. In true Nolan fashion, there’s a star-studded cast including Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson and Zendaya.
