A mockumentary about the making of ‘Amélie’ is in the works

To celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary.

If you’re an arty, romantic type, chances are you’ve seen Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Amélie at least a dozen times.

Now, in the lead up to the film’s 20th anniversary, the director is revisiting the project with a new mockumentary-style production detailing how the film was made.

Jeunet has been reluctant to adapt the iconic rom-com before now – going so far as refusing to watch its brief stint on Broadway in 2017. But it seems he’s finally found a production form to get excited about.

“I’m writing a fake documentary about the shooting of Amélie, like the Peter Jackson movie about the beginning of cinema (Forgotten Silver),” Jeunet told IndieWire. “It’ll be just stupidity, something very funny, very cheap to make, I hope.”

While there aren’t many details available about the mockumentary, it will apparently be released in 2021.
