A month-long Studio Ghibli celebration is coming to Melbourne

Cause for celebration.

ACMI has planned a program of 23 films to celebrate the work of renowned Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli, to be screened as part of a month-long film season.

Studio Ghibli, headed by animation legend Hayao Miyazaki, creates stunning works using cel animation. To do the films justice, ACMI will screen many in their original 35mm in both English and Japanese with English subtitles.

“At ACMI we urge audiences of all ages and tastes to experience the moving image and in the work of Studio Ghibli, there’s considerable cause for celebration,” said James Hewison, ACMI’s Head of Film Programs.

Expect family classics such as My Neighbour Totoro (1988), Ponyo (2008), Howl’s Moving Castle (2004) and Spirited Away (2001) alongside recent titles including The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (2013), The Wind Rises (2013) and When Marnie Was There (2014).

Don’t miss Celebrate! Studio Ghibli at ACMI from Thursday August 24 to Monday September 25. Tickets via ACMI.
