The retail industry is partnering with the Government to get young people hired

Unemployed youth are about to get a leg up.
The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) has now partnered with the Federal Government to help young people enter the retail workforce.
Under the government’s new program, PaTH, unemployed youth will undergo educational training and internships with major retailers. The aim is to then secure them a permanent job.
ARA has agreed to assist up to 10,000 young people to enter the retail industry. They’ll be helping those between 15 and 24 who have been on welfare for six months or more.
There are incentives for both youth and employers to participate in PaTH, with monetary rewards for companies that accept young people for internships or hire. The program also allows retailers to trial workers (who otherwise mightn’t be considered for the job), before they hire them.
“With the diverse range of careers in the retail industry, we need our young staff to not only have basic vocational skills but also have a wide range of qualifications before they can start on the job,” said ARA executive director, Russell Zimmerman, told the Herald Sun.
