WORDS BY FASHION JOURNAL

“I used to be very timid and shy when it came to being sexual, but through experimenting with my job I’ve really come out of my shell.”

After the online sex work boom that occurred during the pandemic, some creators have spoken up about how difficult it is to be noticed in an oversaturated industry. Largely, finding success on a platform like OnlyFans seems to hinge on consistency and out-of-the-box thinking. Brisbane-born creator Annie Knight found her niche as ‘Australia’s most sexually active woman’ – a title given to her by radio shock jocks Kyle and Jackie O.

Annie started her OnlyFans account in late 2020. She quickly found herself making an extra $9,000 (at minimum) on the side of her marketing job. “I realised there might be more to it than just a side hustle,” she says. While Annie would never consider OnlyFans to be the ‘easy option’, it’s a role she truly loves. So what does becoming a top 0.02 per cent creator actually entail? Below, I asked Annie all of my burning questions. Here’s what she had to say.

How did you get your start in the industry?

I started in late 2020 when I decided I wanted to buy a house. I was earning $60,000 a year as a marketing coordinator and it was impossible to save. Initially, I started OnlyFans to earn just an extra $2,000 a month so I could slowly save, but when I made $9,000 in the first month with very little effort, I realised there might be more to it than just a side hustle.

What was your experience like starting OnlyFans?

It was terrifying. Like I said, I was working a full-time job simultaneously and I was so anxious and stressed about my office job finding out about my OnlyFans. It was also at a time when OnlyFans wasn’t as widely accepted, so I received a lot of judgement from people within my social circles… that was really hard to navigate.

You’re known as Australia’s ‘most sexually active woman’. How has your relationship with sex changed over the years?

I’ve become a lot more comfortable with it and really discovered the sexual, fun side of myself. I used to be very timid and shy when it came to being sexual, but through experimenting with my job I’ve really come out of my shell

What’s the craziest request you’ve ever received?

I’d say the most unique request I’ve ever received was to wear heeled boots (and I was fully clothed) and place my phone on the floor while dropping chips (like Smith’s Salt & Vinegar Chips) on the floor and stepping on them really hard while telling the subscriber he’s been naughty and acting like his mum.

On average, how much money do you make in a month?

It differs from month to month, but I generally make between $170,000 and $250,000 per month.

Walk us through a typical working day in your life.

Every day is different, it’s what I love about my job. But a typical filming day for me would start at 5am. I get up and have a morning matcha to start my day whilst I respond to messages and do some admin (scheduling social media and OnlyFans posts and updating spreadsheets I use to track my progress), and then I head to the gym.

When I get home, I shower, eat breakfast, put on some light makeup and get to work. I’ll then proceed to film for four to six hours; this includes taking photos for social media, filming full-length content for my page, filming custom requests and filming any influencer brand deals I have. Once I’m done filming, I’ll log back onto my page and spend the rest of the day sexting and chatting with my subscribers.

What advice would you give to someone who’s interested in getting into the industry?

I’d say do your research and know what you’re getting into. This isn’t the ‘easy option’; this job is harder than any nine-to-five I’ve ever worked. You don’t get weekends, you don’t get ‘time off’ and you don’t succeed overnight. It’s a constant grind and you have to be in it to win it. So if you’re not self-disciplined, self-motivated, thick-skinned, ambitious or business-minded, then forget about it, it’s not the job for you.
