Are ya’ ready, kids?

The world’s most optimistic sponge, SpongeBob SquarePants, has officially scored a spinoff series.

According to Deadline, Nickelodeon has signed off on a 13-episode prequel series with the working title Kamp Koral.

News of the new instalment comes in the lead-up to Spongebob’s third feature film, The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge, which is set to be released later this year.

Like the second film in the trilogy, Kamp Koral will utilise CG animation rather than the 2D animation used in the original series.

The prequel will follow a 10-year-old Spongebob at underwater summer camp. Expect campfire building, jellyfish catching, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck.

It’s yet to be confirmed whether Spongebob’s friends will make an appearance, but we’re holding out hope for baby Patrick Star.

Kamp Koral begins production this month.
