words by Lara Daly and Lauren Payne

Set your alarm and get a journal ready, September’s Total Lunar Eclipse asks you to reflect and take stock.

Prepare for September to be a bit of a rollercoaster, astrologically-speaking. Beginning this Sunday, September 7, a rare Total Lunar Eclipse will be visible in Australian skies in the early hours of Monday – so set your alarm if you want to catch it. During a total lunar eclipse, the moon appears to turn a deep red or coppery hue while passing through Earth’s shadow, earning it the name ‘Blood Moon’.

According to astrologer Lauren Payne, the upcoming eclipse is the ripe time to get journalling. “I highly recommend taking a look back to what was happening in your life during the Partial Lunar Eclipse that happened on September 18, 2024, and the Pisces New Moon on February 28, 2025,” says Lauren.

“These events relate to the story that’s continuing to unfold with the upcoming Blood Moon and will give you a hint about what may come your way both on the day of the eclipse, and the week following.”

The upcoming Total Lunar Eclipse is going to shake things up. Not only is it the second chapter in a more long-term eclipse story, but it’s also happening in the same sign that both the North Node and Saturn are currently travelling through, Pisces. “Saturn is currently also moving in a retrograde motion, so the planet that helps us focus on our responsibilities, discipline, the concept of time, patience and authority, is moving very slowly, encouraging us to take a step back and review the part of our lives that the sign of Pisces oversees,” she explains.

“Pair that with the North Node, which represents the things we’re chasing in life, and we’re in for an astrological event that wants us to embrace whatever change comes our way, for us to take responsibility for our lives, and take charge when it comes to chasing our dreams.”

What is the significance of the Blood Moon in Pisces?

According to Lauren, this Total Lunar Eclipse is good moment for you take off your rose-coloured glasses and see the reality of what’s in front of you. “Many of us have established coping mechanisms to escape the harsh reality of life, and this Blood Moon is here to pull us out of our dream state.

“For some, it’ll be difficult, and unexpected changes will come out of nowhere to pull them into a tough challenge, while others will potentially make a difficult decision that’ll actually set them onto an easier, more aligned, path,” she explains.,

“Pisces is a sign that’s closely connected to our emotions and artistic visions, and with the Total Lunar Eclipse happening in this sign alongside Saturn moving retrograde and the North Node, you’ll either have to knuckle down and do something you’ve been putting off, or you’ll suddenly see whatever it is that’s been holding you back, and feel better equipped to deal with it.”
