Matt Corby: Rainbow Valley

Words by Gloria Brancatisano

An absolute dream.

If absence really does make the heart grow fonder, Matt Corby knew exactly what he was doing when he disappeared for the last couple of years. Rainbow Valley is an absolute dream – it’s warm and tender and familiar, with every soundscape sprawling and open.

After feeling like there was too much going on in his debut, Corby’s aim was to say more with less, and each delicate arrangement succeeds in exactly that. Not afraid to experiment with sound and melody, Corby is more confident and self-assured than ever before.

From the Willy Wonka-inspired psychedelic ‘No Ordinary Life’ to the soulful ‘Better’ and the stripped back ‘Miracle Love’, this record is held together by Corby’s warm croon – his vocal range continues to impress and his tone drips like honey.

Rainbow Valley is a dreamy, joyous ride, and we’ll happily visit again and again.
