Because we all want world peace.

Words by

Brittany Stewart

Before we spent hours glued to Toddlers and Tiaras, we watched Sandra Bullock as a gun-toting beauty queen in Miss Congeniality and a young Kirsten Dunst try and evade Kirstie Alley’s murder attempts in Drop Dead Gorgeous. Yes, the beauty pageant, with all its world peace and perfectly coiffed hair, has long attracted its fair sense of attention, controversy and entertainment since its conception in the 19th century.

Even Beyonce got in on the action, with her video to “Pretty Hurts” centred around a pageant. So, taken lightly, here’s to an excuse to wear a gown, rock a bikini for no reason, a place to show off your embarassing party trick and call it a talent, and appreciate the perfect date (April 25th of course - not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket!).
