Capturing the raw energy of the streets.

If you’re searching for local talent in Melbourne, you don’t have to go very far. It seems that everywhere you look, more and more young people are raising the bar on what it means to be creative in this city.

adidas is onto this, tapping the talents of three up-and-coming Melbourne creatives for  a new exhibition.

Set in its newest neighbourhood concept store, the exhibition will feature the work of videographer/photographer (and FJ favourite) James J Robinson, photographer Ryan Cookson and photographic artist Heather Lighton. The brief was to capture the raw energy of the streets, to promote the new Tubular campaign.

James’ work will showcase a host of friends on VHS format, intersecting street heritage with fashion. Featured in the video are stylist Gadir Rajab, rapper Baro, Bridgette Le of Leisure Suite and artist Brit d’Argaville.

Ryan focused his lens on artist Miso, curator Joe Miranda and musician Ror Akor to front his vision for the exhibition. Taking a considered approach to his images, each shot brings to light the relationship between the streets and high fashion.

Photographic artist Heather Lighton chose to capture her trio of female muses separately and as a group. They include curator Francesca Carey and fashion students Helena Deng and Jasper Fearnley.

The exhibition will be open from today at the adidas neighbourhood concept store, Chadstone Shopping Centre, until Friday December 16.
