Top Three: Australian content creator Mandy Huynh’s favourite beauty products

WORDS BY MAGGIE ZHOU AND CAIT EMMA BURKE

“It was love at first scoop.”

I’m a notoriously nosy person when it comes to products. I want to know whether you double cleanse at night, and if so which cleansers you use. I want to know if there’s some special hair contraption or pair of tweezers that have (hyperbole warranted) changed your life. I want to know what curl definer you use and which lip balm you swear by.

But my interest in products doesn’t just pertain to the world of beauty – I’m always eager to hear about an air fryer that someone loves so much they’ve convinced their entire extended family to get one, or a laptop stand that’s corrected their posture and improved their quality of life by at least 25 per cent.

In short, I j’adore products. This is why I’ve asked some of our favourite Australian beauty and skincare influencers for their top three products, AKA the products they simply cannot live without. The scope is broad – it can genuinely be any three products, as long as they’re the three they value the most.

Joining the mix is Mandy Huynh. Since 2017, she’s been creating content online, showcasing her personal journey with beauty. Known for her glowing skin and penchant for blushes, I had to know what beauty products were most coveted in her collection. With a username like Mandy Likes, I wanted to know what she loves. Read on to find out.

How did you first discover this product?

I had been a fan of Tatcha’s Luminous Dewy Skin Mist prior to the launch of [its] Dewy Skin Cream so [I] was already a big user of the brand. I remember there was an article that circulated talking about how Mario Dedivanovic (AKA Makeup by Mario) always uses The Dewy Skin Cream underneath all of his makeup looks on Kim Kardashian so I was very eager for its launch in Australia. It was love at first scoop with this product and it has been a staple in my routine ever since.

What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?

It’s a luxurious face cream that nourishes the skin while giving it this beautiful dewy glow. I’m all about a healthy skin glow and this product encapsulates it in a little purple jar. I like wearing it during the day underneath my makeup because it makes everything look so good on top.

Where can we find it and who would you recommend it to?

In Australia you can find Tatcha at Mecca Cosmetica, I recommend this to anyone who loves a flawless base for their makeup or if [they] want beautiful glazed donut skin.

Product two: Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter

How did you first discover this product?

I first discovered this product at Selfridges in London back in 2018! Charlotte Tilbury wasn’t yet available in Australia but I had seen so many international makeup artists, YouTubers and influencers using her products so I knew I had to pop into the stall at Selfridges during my Europe trip to check it out.

I knew very little of the brand [at] that time so [I] remember asking the shop assistant what to get and she immediately told me to try this, as well as the famous lipstick in Pillow Talk. I have been using both ever since.

What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?

It’s a beautiful multi-use product. I personally like using it underneath my foundation for a lit-from-within glow but you can use it on its own for a glowy ‘no-makeup’ makeup look or on top of your makeup for added highlight.

Where can we find it and who would you recommend it to?

You can grab it on [Charlotte Tilbury’s] website or at Mecca! I recommend it for anyone who wants to easily add a natural glow to their makeup look.

Product three: Kiss Me Heroine Mascara Long and Curl Mascara

How did you first discover this product?

This one I discovered from TikTok. I remember I posted a video about the viral telescopic mascara and how it just did not work for my stubborn, flat lashes and a follower commented telling me to try this mascara. My life has been changed ever since.

What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?

Japanese mascaras are a whole new breed, I believe they’re designed for Asian lashes which tend to be thinner and straighter with [less of an ability] to hold a curl, no matter how hard you curl your lashes. This mascara cured all those problems; it separates, lengthens and keeps your lashes curled while also being set at a decent price point.

It’s smudge-proof and waterproof too (I’ve had a makeup artist use it on me at a wedding because he said it’s cry-proof!). It’s a bit harder to remove compared to regular mascara but [it’s] nothing a good balm cleanser can’t fix.

Where can we find it and who would you recommend it to?

You can get this online at retailers such as Stylevana or YesStyle or if you happen to go on holiday in Japan make sure you pick it up (along with other products from this brand). If you have stubbornly flat lashes I definitely recommend you try this mascara out. It’s hard to use regular mascaras now that I’ve discovered this one.
