Top Three: Bread Beauty Supply’s founder Maeva Heim shares her desert island beauty products
WORDS BY CAIT EMMA BURKE
“It’s one of my favourite products that we’ve ever made because it gives you the perfect clean without the squeaky gross feeling.”
I’m a notoriously nosy person when it comes to products. I want to know whether you double cleanse at night, and if so which cleansers you use. I want to know if there’s some special hair contraption or pair of tweezers that have (hyperbole warranted) changed your life. I want to know what curl definer you use and which lip balm you swear by.
In short, I adore products. This is why I’ve asked some of our favourite Australian creatives for their top three products, AKA the products they simply cannot live without. The scope is broad – it can genuinely be any three products, as long as they’re the three they value the most.

Joining us this week is Maeva Heim, the Melbourne-based founder of Bread Beauty Supply, a brand she launched after noticing a gap in the market for Black haircare. If, like me, you want to know what she has on high rotation, you’ll be pleased to know she’s shared her top three favourite products of all time below.
Product one: Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser

How did you first discover this product?
I first discovered this product at a tradeshow. Someone gave me a free sample, and I loved it so much that I’ve since repurchased it.
What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?
It feels like such a basic recommendation but I seriously love this cleanser. It feels bouncy and jelly to the touch (not dissimilar to the Bread Clear-Wash Clarifying Shampoo, actually), and so silky on the skin whilst still giving you a really nice, clean cleanse. The scent is a little like baby powder or fresh linen, but very subtle. It’s so cheap, but feels surprisingly luxe.
Where would you find it and who would you recommend it to?
You can pick it up from most major and small-chain chemists, like Chemist Warehouse or your local pharmacy! I have particularly dry skin, so I love it, but honestly, the texture feels very universal so I think it would work for most skin types.
Product two: Sundae Body Whipped Shower Foam

How did you first discover this product?
I first picked this up on a trip to the United States but it’s an Aussie brand!
What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?
I’m a quick shower girlie, so I love that this actually makes the shower-washing process surprisingly faster. It also adds a bit of fun to the experience which is always nice. It smells incredible and ultimately makes showering more efficient, which I wasn’t necessarily expecting. I’ve fallen in love with the ease.
Where would you find it and who would you recommend it to?
It’s great for anyone who loves a fragrant, fun, fast shower! You can find it online and at Woolworths and Coles.
Product three: Bread Beauty Clear-Wash Clarifying Shampoo

How did you first discover this product?
Well, it’s my brand. So I discovered it by making it!
What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?
It’s an incredible clarifying shampoo (read: extreme clean) with rosemary and sage that gives your scalp and strands a nice detox from build-up caused by styling products, sweat and general life. It’s one of my favourite products that we’ve ever made because it gives you the perfect clean without the squeaky gross feeling that you get from a lot of clarifying shampoos.
I like to say that a good shampoo is a styling product, actually. Without getting rid of that build up with a quality clarifier, your styling results won’t be good. So, this is the ultimate starting point. Oh, and it was very much inspired by my youth growing up on the Australian beaches – clear waters, smooth sand, fruit in the esky. The perfect vibe and ingredient inspiration.
Where would you find it and who would you recommend it to?
It works on all hair types and it’s colour-safe, so it’s perfect for anyone whose hair is limp and dry or anyone who’s finding that their waves or curls aren’t forming properly.
