A round-up of this year’s most loved and coveted products.

As the federal election creeps closer (Saturday May 21, don’t forget to vote!), the results of another democratic vote poll are in. And while the election to which we’re referring won’t inform how the government tackles climate change, trans rights and the treatment of refugees (seriously, please make your vote count), it will likely impact your shopping cart.

Yes, we’re talking about Mecca‘s annual Beauty Election, which sees customers vote for their favourite products from a shortlist of 114 bestsellers across 15 categories including Most Innovative, Best Devices or Tools, Best Complexion, and Best Personal Fragrance.

We like nosy people. Don’t be shy, head to our Beauty section for more.

There’s a whole wide world of skincare, cosmetics, hair products, and fragrances out there, and trying to find the right fit for you can be a daunting task. But seeing the products fellow beauty aficionados swear by is always a great place to start.

So, if you’re looking to add some new products to your routine, let this list steer you in the right direction. Or maybe you already have an arsenal of products you swear by and are eager to see if others have been sleeping on them. Either way, here are the winners of this year’s Beauty Election.

Makeup

Best complexion: Nars Sheer Glow

Offering a sheer, buildable coverage and lightweight formula, this foundation is popular for its natural, satin finish that makes skin look glowy all day long. Plus, it’s packed with glycerin: a powerful humectant that maintains the skin’s moisture levels to prevent dehydration.

Best eye shadow: Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette

Highly pigmented yet soft enough for everyday wear, this Charlotte Tilbury palette comes in universally flattering hues that will make your eyes pop. The four-pan palette offers a selection of shades designed to suit all eye colours, so you really can’t go wrong.

Best mascara: Kevyn Aucoin Volume Mascara

Made with jojoba oil to hydrate the lashes, this sensitive formula is perfect for those with watery eyes. Smudge-proof, non-flaky, and clump, free, this mascara ticks all the boxes.

Best lip: Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution

A gorgeous, non-drying matte lipstick that will have your lips looking buttery soft, Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution is a dream. Made with 3D glowing pigments in a range of soft nudes and deep, velvety reds, pinks, and browns, this long-wearing lippy is utterly divine.

Best blush: Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Blush Stick

This multi-tasking product (it can be used as a blush, lip colour and on your eyes), delivers a super natural-looking flush. It contains organic jojoba oil and berryflux vita, an ingredient sourced from raspberry cells that helps firm and nourish your skin. If that hasn’t convinced you, then the luxurious, weighty casing it comes in might – it even has a lid that closes magnetically, so there’s no chance of it falling off in your bag.

Best toner and cleanser: Tatcha The Rice Wash

Working to restore and protect the skin barrier while giving your skin a natural glow, Tatcha’s cult-favourite Rice Wash harnesses the ancient Japanese tradition of using rice as an essential beauty ritual ingredient. It also contains Japanese algae and Hadasei-3, a fermented Japanese superfood that promotes youthful skin.

Best devices or tools: Cosmetics 27 Gua Sha

Gua sha has become a sensation for its incredible, instant results in reducing puffiness and this tool is voted the best. Cut from white jade stone, this gua sha tool helps with lymphatic drainage as well as increasing circulation to eliminate toxins and relax the facial muscles.

Best moisturiser: Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream

Don’t be fooled by the thick, creamy whipped consistency of this cream, it sits on the skin beautifully and is surprisingly lightweight. Perfect for normal to dry skin, the formula comprises six cold-pressed African oils and ceramides to hydrate and brighten the skin.

Best oils and serums: Glow Recipe Watermelon Dew Drops

This ultra dewy serum is the ultimate illuminator. Combining niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, it works to even skin tone, improve the skin’s barrier, brighten, and hydrate! Plus, it smells incredible.

Best eye cream: Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream

Caffeine and panax ginseng join forces to reduce the appearance of fatigue and dark circles in this refreshing eye cream while niacinamide and vitamin C work to brighten the under-eye area. The common consensus is that results are instantly noticeable, too.

Hair, body and fragrance

Best personal fragrance: Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rogue 540 EDP

A delicious concoction of jasmine, saffron, amber accord and cedar, this woody scent is warm, romantic, and long-wearing. Among the long list of rave Mecca reviews, many Baccarat Rogue die-hards say they’re frequently stopped by strangers to ask what scent they’re wearing.

Best hair:  Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask

Clinically proven to boost strength, shine, and silkiness, this hair mask utilises the power of rosehip oil, algae extract, and B vitamins to feed the hair essential fatty and amino acids, minerals and vitamins. It’s designed to revive hair that’s been damaged by chemicals and heat and promises to decrease hair breakage after just two uses.

Best body: Sol De Janiero Bom Dia Bright Cream

While we slather our faces with products, we tend to neglect the rest of our body. But this Sol De Janiero body cream makes giving all of our skin some love simple. It’s full of AHAs for gentle exfoliation as well as vitamin C to leave the skin glowing. Plus, it helps reduce ingrown hairs and works to reduce bumpy, rough skin on the upper arms, thighs and bum.
