We reviewed 5 BB creams so you can achieve the perfect base

First base.

We’ve always thought of BB creams as the underrated cousin of foundation, and finally we’re putting that idea to the test.

Loaded with added skincare benefits like SPF and antioxidants, BB creams make for the perfect winter skin saver.

To avoid hiding under layers of foundation come June, we examined five beauty balm formulas.

Brand: 3INA
Name: The BB Cream
From: 3ina.com
Price: $16.95
3INA’s The BB Cream has converted my opinion of BB creams for good. The sheer formula evens and brightens my complexion, while still allowing my skin to look like real skin. After a full day at work, my face is dewy without being oily. At $16.95 a tube, it looks like my days of foundation are over.

Brand: Napoleon Perdis
Name: Auto Pilot BBB Cream SPF 30
From: napoleonperdis.com
Price: $59
The extra ‘B’ isn’t the only thing that separates NP’s BB cream from the rest. While on first glance, its formula feels more like a thick foundation, once rubbed in my skin looks naturally radiant and dewy, without the cake-like coverage. It’s also a 10/10 colour corrector and works well to hide minor blemishes.

Brand: Nude by Nature
Name:
Sheer Glow BB Cream
From: nudebynature.com.au
Price:
$29.95
On first inspection out of the tube, I was unsure about how this product would wear. It’s a little hard to rub in and has a chalky smell but once settled, the cream looks surprisingly good on. Considering the affordability of Nude by Nature’s offering, you get a really decent finish. My complexion is brightened, and skin tone appears smooth and even.

Brand: REN
Name: Satin Perfection BB Cream
From: mecca.com.au
Price: $58
As the name suggests, this product has a nice satin finish and feels extremely light on my skin. It provides even coverage without looking heavy and has the added bonus of SPF 15 built into the formula. I particularly like the slight citrusy smell – it’s a welcome addition as I often find BB creams can smell quite chemically.

Brand: Aevitas
Name: BB Finish
From: aevitasactives.com
Price: $65
This BB cream is long-wearing and provides aluminous finish. Produced by celebrity facialist Sue Dann, the formula promises to visibly improve skin elasticity by up to 15 per cent within 60 days. I’ve only tried this product for a few weeks, so I’m keen to see how it plays out in the long run. Bonus points as it contains no dimethicone like many other silicon-based BB creams, which can often clog pores.
