Covering your bases.
I’m a notoriously nosy person when it comes to beauty products. I want to know whether you double cleanse at night, how often you wash your hair, and exactly what you’re using. I want to know if there’s some special facial tool or pair of tweezers that have (hyperbole warranted) changed your life. I want to know what curl definer you use and which lip balm you swear by.
Want to snoop inside the beauty regimes of other creatives? Head here.
In short, I adore products. This is why I’ve asked some of our favourite Australian and New Zealand beauty experts to share the ‘top three’ products they can’t live without. The scope is broad – it can genuinely be anything, as long as they’re the three they value the most.
Joining us this week is Fashion Journal’s Assistant Editor, Daisy Henry. When part of your job is being across the latest beauty releases and launches, it’s no easy task to narrow down your top essentials to just a few products. But when asked to share her top three, she turned to the holy trinity: a sunscreen, a lip tint and a concealer. A fan of dewy skin, these are Daisy’s desert island essentials.
Product one: Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF50+ Superscreen

How did you first discover this product?
I probably stumbled on this sunscreen online, saw the price and didn’t need much more convincing. Years on, it’s one of my most re-purchased beauty products.
What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?
Mecca’s Superscreen is an everyday facial sunscreen – one of the best-scoring sunscreens in the recent Choice survey. It’s made to sit between your moisturiser and foundation and I’ve experienced zero white cast when using it. Most days I’ll wear it on its own with a light concealer or skin tint, and it feels hydrating and dewy. Shockingly, it’s caused zero flare ups for my hyper-sensitive, eczema-prone skin.
Where would you find it and who would you recommend it to?
Everyone should be wearing a daily sunscreen! It’s a lighter shade, so I’d recommend it to people with a fair to medium skin tone. You can find it at Mecca, it comes in a few different sizes, starting at $22.
Product two: Benefit Cosmetics Benetint

How did you first discover this product?
Benefit’s Benetint has been around forever – over 40 years, actually. It was first created in 1976 by founders Jean and Jane Ford as a nipple tint for exotic dancers. They boiled rose petals and carmine to create the iconic red stain and the rest is history. I’d argue it’s the original cult classic makeup product.
What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?
Today’s iteration of Benetint is a lip and cheek stain (I can’t personally speak to whether it’s still nipple safe). I’m a fan of streamlining my morning routine and using minimal products during the day, and this little bottle is like a one-stop-shop. You can apply it to the high points of your cheeks and dab onto your lips, and you’re sorted. I usually keep it in my bag and apply en route via my car’s review mirror.
Where would you find it and who would you recommend it to?
For anyone who wants easy-to-use, multi-purpose products. It’s $42, lasts forever and you can buy it from Adore Beauty (with free delivery on orders over $30).
Product three: Kosas Revealer Concealer

How did you first discover this product?
Despite road-testing TikTok’s ‘under eye’ bag trend, I’ve always loved a good concealer. And I probably always will. No matter how much sleep I get, I’ll have dark circles under my eyes, so I’ve made it my mission to try out every concealer I can get my hands on. Yet time and time again, I keep coming back to the Kosas Revealer Concealer.
What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?
It’s a stock-standard concealer but there are a few reasons I keep going back to it. First, it’s one of those rare, unicorn products that doesn’t compeltely dry out my skin. It’s dewy, hydrating and actually brightens up my under-eye bags. I love a multi-purpose product and I’ve found this works just as well covering up any blemishes or red patches on my skin. If I have a good sunscreen underneath and I wear this over the top, it’s usually all I need. Plus, a little goes a long way.
Where would you find it and who would you recommend it to?
You can get a full-size tube from Mecca for $55, or if you want to dip your toe in, you can get a mini for $28.
You can find more from Daisy here.
