Top Three: Here are Sydney-based beauty editor Emily Algar’s holy grail products

WORDS BY CAIT EMMA BURKE

Which products made the cut?

I’m a notoriously nosy person when it comes to products. I want to know whether you double cleanse at night, and if so which cleansers you use. I want to know if there’s some special hair contraption or pair of tweezers that have (hyperbole warranted) changed your life. I want to know what curl definer you use and which lip balm you swear by.

But my interest in products doesn’t just pertain to the world of beauty – I’m always eager to hear about an air fryer that someone loves so much they’ve convinced their entire extended family to get one, or a laptop stand that’s corrected their posture and improved their quality of life by at least 25 per cent.

In short, I j’adore products. This is why I’ve asked some of our favourite Australian beauty and skincare influencers for their top three products, AKA the products they simply cannot live without. The scope is broad – it can genuinely be any three products, as long as they’re the three they value the most.

Next in line is Australian beauty editor Emily Algar. If you’re after clear, glossy skin like Emily, listen up! Here are her top three.

Product one: Rationale #6 The Night Cream

How did you first discover this product?

I’ve never found a vitamin A that works better for my skin. It’s expensive, but the results are completely worth it.

What is it/what does it do and why do you love it?

This cream is holy grail level. It’s a vitamin A product and the sole reason my skin remains bright and clear. It also contains DNA repair enzymes, which sound science-y but are responsible for removing dead, dull surface cells. The texture is also nice – light and hydrating but not greasy.

Where can we find it and who would you recommend it to?

Rationale #6 is super active so probably not great for highly sensitive skin types, but if you’re oily, congested or suffer uneven skin tone, you’ll love. Find it here.

Product two: Chanel Baume Essentiel Transparent Highlighter

How did you first discover this product?

I first tried it a few years ago as a baby beauty editor. The fact it was Chanel was the initial drawcard but the texture and shine have seen it take up permanent residence in my makeup bag.

What is it/what does it do and why do you love it?

This highlighter is truly something special and all of my glassy skin dreams realised. It’s totally colourless, so gives skin the dewy glow as opposed to a sparkle or shimmer. I use it on my cheekbones, eyelids, cupids bow, as a clear lip sheen or even to fluff up brows. No brushes necessary, either.

Where can we find it and who would you recommend it to?

It works for all skin tones and is one of the few luxury makeup products I’d repurchase. Try it if you’re into hyper-glossy Instagram skin. You can buy it here.

Product three: Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

How did you first discover this product?

It’s one of those products every celebrity and makeup artist recommends – I bought it for the first time when I was younger and didn’t have a lot of cash for makeup, so the stakes were high. But to this day it’s still the best concealer I’ve ever used.

What is it/what does it do and why do you love it?

Concealer is a bit boring to me because it’s purely functional, but my god this stuff works. It’s creamy but super pigmented and almost dries down to a soft, natural, skin-like texture. If you sent me away with only one makeup product I’d probably choose this. I’ve got about four shades on the go and have no plans on quitting.

Where can we find it and who would you recommend it to?

It works a treat on breakouts, pigmentation and under the eyes. For those in Australia, you can find Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer at Mecca.
