We are seeking a Junior Designer to join our Dresses department! As our Junior Designer, you will be responsible for delivering trend inspired design direction, the development of mood boards and colour palettes in line with the Forever New handwriting and will work in collaboration with the Buying Teams.

You will also have the opportunity to lean in on your leadership skills by supporting the Senior Designer in the development of the Design Assistant.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure comprehensive knowledge of local and overseas market trends through various mediums including magazines and online research
- Analyse relevance of trends for brand and plan ranges accordingly in collaboration with the Buying & Design Manager and Buyer
- Ensure ‘finger on pulse’ of emerging trends to ensure Forever New is first to market with new trends
- Create/visualise outstanding new designs in line with Forever New handwriting and product strategy
- Demonstrate broad awareness of competitors and external trends, identifying missed opportunities and trends Proactive participation in weekly Design meetings, contributing to group discussion by sharing new ideas and observations
- Participate in collaborative workshops with design team to develop on trend/commercial story boards and colour palettes in line with Forever New brand
- Under the guidance of the Senior Designer, present trend boards per product category with direction from monthly story boards to Buyer and ensure that key trends, shapes, colour direction and fabrics are considered
- Research fabric trends for the season and brief Production team to source fabric and trims
- Complete the design brief, post concept sign off, to the standard required, ensuring detailed accuracy, and that QA, and Production are adequately briefed to minimise re-work
- Provide clear communication and guidance to Design Assistants in order that the team and personal achievements are met
KEY SKILLS
- A qualification in Fashion Design/Textile Design is essential
- 2+ years working for a women’s apparel brand at an Assistant Designer level or Junior Designer (or combined).
- Skilled in visualizing design concepts (PC/MAC)
- Ability to translate fashion trends into commercial design concepts
- Fabric and raw material knowledge
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of all critical path elements and their impact on sales
- Knowledge of local and overseas fashion retail markets
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team
- ‘Big picture’ thinking; contribute to team and business objectives
- Use personal initiative and be creative to grow the business
