It might be getting colder, but that doesn’t mean you have to hibernate for three solid months. In fact, some of the best activities are even more fun in autumn and winter — not just because they come with a side of red wine, but because we get to wear much cuter outfits too.

H&M has teamed up with quintessential British interiors brand Morris & Co, digging into the archives from the late 1800s and repurposing iconic wallpaper prints into romantic and tailored designs. Think pieces with opulent accents like tie necks, voluminous sleeves, knife pleats and ruffles.

To celebrate, I’ve picked five of the best chilly weather activities and teamed each with a look from the collection. You’ll be able to mix and match these pieces for literally every occasion for the entire season. And with your wardrobe sorted, it means you can sleep in just that little bit longer each morning. Don’t say I don’t do anything for you.

Dining out

If you’re one to hide in the confines of your apartment all winter long, make this the year you pull on your over-the-knee boots and try that restaurant you’ve been dying to check out. There’s something so indulgent about a cosy dinner when it’s cold and windy outside. An excellent go-to for this type of rendezvous is a pair of flared jeans, styled with a paisley tie-front shirt.

Exploring art exhibitions

Maybe the rain is sideways, or maybe your brain needs a little break from the vortex of Netflix? Either way, this is where art exhibitions come in handy. Grab yourself a hot coffee, check out your local gallery’s schedule and choose your own adventure. Try head-to-toe white, finished off with a nude or grey coat. Ideal for wandering through an exhibition, then having a drink at a nearby wine bar.

A trip to the movies or theatre

There is such a thing as balancing a social life and staying toasty dry during the cruel season of winter, and it’s called a trip to the movies or the theatre. Keep your eye out for film events like short and international film festivals, and theatre shows and plays to attend. When you’re getting dressed, go with the cultured Parisian vibe: cable knits with printed wide-leg pants and paisley dresses layered with turtlenecks.

Weekend brunch

So you might switch up your usual acai bowl to a spicy baked eggs dish, but let’s be clear: brunch is an all-year-round activity. The dress code is all about comfort; effortlessly stylish pieces that are easy to throw on when you finally convince yourself to roll out of your toasty bed on a Sunday morning… and equally easy to throw off when you retreat back indoors. Go for a paisley maxi dress and oversized cardigan, or a roll neck knit and trousers.

Winter dressing for the office

Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to wear something other than black to work in winter. In fact, you should challenge yourself to mix up your usual wardrobe. Experiment with layering textures, playing with proportions and mixing prints and colours — think a longline nude coat over a short paisley dress, or a heavy knit paired with a soft, pleated skirt.
