Ever wondered what happens on show day at MBFWA?

If you’re curious about what goes down on show day during fashion week (we know we are), today’s the day all will be revealed. We asked sisters Lizzie and Georgie Renkert, founders of We Are Kindred (pictured), to keep a diary so we could all share in the frenzy that is MBFWA

We then joined the duo backstage at their show to see how it came together. Catch a behind-the-scenes look at the runway in the gallery above.

Here’s what Lizzie and Georgie got up to:

5am: It’s time to wake up, have a shower to get ready for the day ahead. We grab a cup of tea and say farewell to our families.

5:30am: Leaving the house, Georgie heads to the office to pick up last minute accessories for the show, while Lizzie goes to Carriageworks with a car full of contents for the show gift bags.

6am: Arrive at Carriageworks. We unpack the cars and get the back of house area set up. The bump-in for the venue has begun, with the mirrored runway starting to be laid.

6.30am: Coffee time! Thank goodness for the brilliant Vittoria coffee carts set up on site at Carriageworks.

6.45am: The My Violet team start installing the flowers along the runway. The hair and makeup teams arrive and start to set up for the day.

7:00am: The rest of our We Are Kindred team arrive – Hayley, Jo and Em (or as we like to call them, our angels).

7:15am: Our show stylist Marina Didovich and her team arrive with all of the garments for the runway and begin to set up backstage. Commence steaming and preparing pieces for the runway.

7:30am: The gorgeous models start to arrive, while Marina and her styling team continue preparing garments for the runway.

8am: After full briefings, the hair and makeup teams begin working to create the stunning looks for the show.

8:15am: The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia volunteers arrive and assist with packing the show gift bags and placing these on seats, ready for guests to arrive.

8:30am: The My Violet team continue with the floral installation, meanwhile, the sound and lighting technicians begin rehearsals for the technical elements of the show.

9am: By this point, the creative teams are well underway in getting ready for the show. We’re supervising the technical run through front of house, working closely with production manager Zanthia from The Event Group. At this time, models are practising their walks for the show and Marina and her styling team are preparing the accessories to go with each look.

9:30am: As the technical run through wraps up, models return to have final hair and makeup touch-ups.

10am: Backstage photographers arrive and begin to capture all of the wonderful backstage content we all love so much for our Instagrams.

10:30am: Models are now dressed in their looks. We are doing backstage press interviews and finalising the various elements for the show. Not long now until the show starts!

10:45am: Models line up backstage, ready to walk the runway. Final styling touches to the shoes, hemlines, makeup and hair are being made. Photographers are capturing last-minute content and ducking between models, stylists and the hair and makeup teams… creative madness!

11am: Final touch-ups to the front of house area, including the painstaking task of keeping the mirrored runway clean and shiny… not a small job! Now we’re ready for our guests to arrive.

11:30am: Peak excitement… the show is about to start!

11:50am: The show is over – what an adrenaline rush! We’re so happy with the outcome and are so proud of our amazing team.

12pm: A couple of post-show press backstage press interviews, celebrating the collection and lots of excited faces.

12:15pm: Time to pack things up backstage.

12:30pm: Many hands make quick work – time to retire to the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge for celebratory champagnes with our friends, family and team.

2pm: No rest for the wicked, time for a few afternoon appointments in The Suites with our international buyers.

4pm: Now, time to go back to the office, wrap up any last press interviews, post a celebratory Instagram photo and thank our wonderful team. But more importantly, off to have a celebratory pasta and vino tonight!
