Lost and found.

Whether you’re looking for sold-out Djerf Avenue or Heaven pieces, unique vintage relics or small-run handmade gems, Depop is quickly becoming Gen Z’s resale platform of choice.

I’ve found some of my most-worn pieces on Depop. I can thank the platform for my favourite pair of maroon faux-croc-skin platform heels, as well as the Vivienne Westwood necklace I bought for a steal.

While I love the platform as both a customer and a seller, I’m far from being a secondhand fashion expert. Luckily, I know some people who are. Below, I asked 10 Australian creatives to style their favourite Depop find.

Jeneane Susas, she/her, freelance marketer

This is my take on the basic big tee, baggy jeans and sneakers combo – but make it obnoxious. I love following trends as much as the next fashion girlie, but I will always find a way to do it differently.

Every piece in this outfit is either thrifted or from Depop, from the gold chain to the Poppy Lissiman bag. These metallic purple Nike sneakers are one of my most prized possessions. I found them on Depop and I’m pretty sure they’re kids’ shoes. They are so
unique and were such a bargain, I can’t get over the fact that I found them.

What I love about resale platforms like Depop is knowing that every piece I buy and wear has had a previous life, and has been a part of someone’s life before adding value to mine. You can find such unique pieces and really curate your style and self-expression while contributing to a more ethical fashion cycle. What’s not to love?

The piece I’m wearing is a secondhand, pre-loved P.A.M. dress I found for $35. I’ve styled it with some chunky black boots, a head scarf and my basket bag. It gives me major ‘spring Saturdays at the farmers market’ vibes.

I’ve sold and shopped on Depop for the last five years now. I love looking for and finding very specific vintage or designer pieces to add to my rotation or to fulfil an outfit concept. It makes it extra juicy that you get the chance to give life to pieces that may have stayed unworn, or worse, ended up in landfill.

These are three of my favourite items in my wardrobe, all thrifted and two sourced via Depop. I love pairing my brown faux-leather snakeskin pants with an array of pastel shades – but brown and pastel pink together takes the cake.

These pants would have to be the most re-worn piece of clothing I own. They have accompanied me on some very fun adventures. I love Depop because I can source staple pieces [to] wear and re-wear. Thrifting and Depop help me to experiment with my style and always keep my outfits interesting.

This amazing two-piece Jaded London suit is my favourite Depop find. I love wearing suits, they make me feel empowered and confident. I love the baggy fit of this one in particular because you can dress it up with some heels and accessories or dress it down with sneakers. Depop is a trendy, eco-friendly solution to fast fashion. I love it because you can sell and discover unique secondhand pieces globally at very affordable prices.

It’s also strongly community-based, making fashion accessible to most. Anyone can set up an account and treat themselves to a fit that makes them feel good. Also since launching my online fashion magazine, I’ve been using Depop to check new trends and get inspired by different people’s styles.

I don’t know why, but throughout my life, I have consistently been a terrible op shopper. I’ve always struggled to discern the good from the bad on op shop racks, and anything I’ve purchased has never stayed in my wardrobe long. As an artist and a very visual person, clothing resale apps have been a lifesaver for me. They make it infinitely easier to envision these pieces on your body and among the rest of your wardrobe at home, often due to the immaculate curation and styling.

Another thing I greatly appreciate about this process is the ability I now have to purchase vintage pieces from across the globe; [pieces] that simply would never find their way to op shops here otherwise. The pants/skirt and beanie featured in my photos are both by French and Austrian brands, and something about knowing they travelled all the way from Europe to get here makes them really special to me.

As a lover of pre-loved fashion pieces from a very young age, Depop was a no-brainer. For this look, I decided to draw inspo from my cultural background, mixing red and green pieces that represent my flag with traditional jewellery. Streetwear will always be my go-to when it comes to everyday style.

As someone who is always running around between work and play, I love how practical and comfy most streetwear pieces are… while still looking cute, of course! This reworked Nike bralette was such a rare find and I’ve worn it so many times… it goes with so many of the other Nike goodies in my wardrobe.

I love how easy it is to buy [on Depop] too. I recently outgrew 50 per cent of the pants in my wardrobe… which only meant shopping for new ones. I styled my look with these green Glassons high-rise straight jeans that I purchased from Depop recently as I wanted to add a pop of colour to my spring wardrobe. Love how versatile these are!

I stumbled across this jacket earlier in the year and it was love at first sight. Leather jackets can be so stiff but to my luck, this one is a buttery dream. Bonus point, it’s orange! I find shopping secondhand and vintage to be very much like a lucky dip, so when I saw this piece while randomly browsing my Depop suggested page, I knew I had to snap it up.

I love sourcing pops of colour and special hero pieces that I can incorporate into my capsule wardrobe and style every which way. Depop makes finding forever pieces like this such an easy process!

This outfit is a no-brainer for me – my favourite vintage Levi’s, a kitten heel and the hero jacket with some classic sunglasses. How I dress can make or break my day, which sounds dramatic but it’s true. I feel my most confident self when I’m comfortable, so my outfits usually follow a similar formula that works for me and makes me feel great.

To be honest, I’m an absolute sucker for compliments on my outfits. I’m always on the hunt for fun, unique and quirky items to add to my collection. I bought this hat from Depop at the start of 2022 for about $15 from a small business in Brisbane. It was certainly a worthy investment because every time I wear it, someone asks me “Where did you get your hat? It’s so cool”. I get the pleasure of telling them it was from Depop and is likely one of a kind.

As well as the joy of receiving compliments, I am very passionate about limiting the excess waste in the fashion industry. I find it astounding that each person dumps around 31 kgs of clothing waste each year only to be stuck in the fast fashion cycle and continue to only buy new clothes. With Depop, people sell their pre-loved clothes to new owners, who can give the article of clothing a second life.

There is definitely still a stigma attached to buying secondhand clothing… Depop is a key leader in making a difference. It’s changing the way people perceive buying secondhand, making it a beautiful thing to do.

I love items that have a past or story to them. Because of this, half my wardrobe either comes from a vintage bizarre (shoutout to The Castlemaine Vintage Bazaar), Mum’s old ’90s closet, or Depop. I went through a whole year where I only bought clothing secondhand or made by hand – this corset is the latter.

Made to order from Montana Brown, it beautifully (and almost shockingly) holds in my DD/E-size cup because of its adjustable string back. [Some of] us bigger-boobed girls struggle when trying to find a corset. My sister and I share wardrobes, so it’s really a fight to see who can grab this on a Friday night when you’re wanting to feel a little bit spicy.

My favourite Depop find is my vintage Miffy crossbody bag. I managed to find it within a couple of hours of it being posted. If you’re a Miffy connoisseur, you will know how lucky a find like this is. I paired my bag with a skivvy by Après Studio, a vest from Uniqlo and a thrifted skirt.

My personal style is quite minimal. I wear a mostly winter colour palette while having fun with my accessories and playful second-and items. Things like cartoon patchwork bags and childlike purses add personality to my outfits.

Depop is the perfect platform for vintage collectors to share our love of cute antiques globally. When I’m not hunting a Miffy or Sanrio knick-knack, I’m sourcing preloved items from small businesses. Depop is a melting pot of both vintage and secondhand listings by local creators. There’s always something hiding in a nook or cranny if you know where to look.
