A streetwear company is now designing trans swimwear

Because nobody likes buying swimmers.

The rights and equality of trans and gender-nonconforming people have changed in leaps and bounds over the past year, allowing them to celebrate their diversity. But one thing that hadn’t quite caught up was swimwear.

Buying swimmers isn’t a great experience for most people, but while most people have options at least, trans and gender-nonconforming people had none.

But that’s about to change. Two siblings from Flavnt Streetwear have come up with an awesome idea that’s inclusive and just generally, well, awesome.

The siblings had been playing with the idea of the Bareskin Top and, after setting up a crowd-funding endeavour, they’ve taken the idea to the cutting table.

The Bareskin Top allows non-binary people to feel comfortable in their bare skin. It will come in a range of skin tones and, like a traditional binder, it’s designed to minimise the appearance of breasts.

“We’ve combined the silhouette of a traditional half binder and compression sports bra to create a comfortable top that binds but still lets you get a tan and feel closer to being shirtless than anything else out there.”

The Bareskin Top will be coming out in time for America’s Spring Break 2016 and it’s set to change the way the world think’s about swimwear, and to hopefully take some of the awkwardness out of it.

Here’s to forward thinking.
